A115, A116 Experimental Animation A-Block
A-Block (alongside BB4) is one of two main physical spaces for the Experimental Animation Program. Staff and faculty offices are located in the A115A entry hallway, which also serves as a showcase for recent student work. The A115A entry hallway is open during regular business hours, but the studio spaces listed below are only accessible to Experimental Animation students and faculty. There are other specialized spaces in A-Block, as outlined below.
A115J Animation Studio
In A115J, there are a mix of assigned and unassigned student desks, as well as six Mac Studio Cintiq Pen Display workstations. The room is lined with private student lockers for storing supplies and work. The front of the studio has space for communal worktables, meant for collaborative work or socializing. The back of the studio has three unassigned downshooter desks, and a print/scan station.
A115K, A115L, and A116B Downshooter Rooms
These three rooms house private spaces for down shooters for more in-depth student productions. They are equipped with posable lighting systems, a multi-plane, an iMac workstation with Dragonframe 5, and various tools for maintaining projects. Reservations are made using the physical sign-up sheets posted on each downshooter room door.
A115H Commons Space
A115H is a large common area connected to the A115J Studio and the Lulu Von Hagen Courtyard. It features modular furniture and an Audio/Video system for hosting screenings and events.
A115I Conference Room
A115I is a smaller multi-use room connected to A115H Commons, designed for more intimate screenings and meetings, such as grad reviews. It is equipped with its own Audio/Video system.
A116 Thesis Studio
A116 is the EA Thesis Studio, specifically for upper-year MFA students who are working on their thesis films. It is connected to A115J by a glass door, which can be kept open for easy movement, or closed for a more quiet workspace.
Access
All Experimental Animation students are granted access to the A-Block after signing an agreement at the beginning of the year stipulating use and regulations. Access to A116 will only be granted to students with an assigned desk in the Thesis Studio
