Bijou Festival Screening Sign-Ups
Sign-Ups
If you would like to submit a film to an Open Screening for Bijou Festival, you should fill out the Bijou Festival Submission Form when it opens in the Spring Semester. Keep an eye out when the exact date is released, as Open Screening placement will be decided on a first-come first-served basis via the form.If you are screening a film as part of a class screening or curated screening, you should still fill out a Bijou Festival Submission Form.
Thesis Screening Order Lottery
Graduating School of Film/Video students only:
Graduating students in the Experimental Animation Program, Film Directing Program, and Program in Film/Video have reserved screening blocks on Thursday and Friday in which their graduation thesis films are scheduled to be screened. This time is reserved for families and friends who are in town for graduation to see their students’ films screened. If, for any reason, you would rather show your thesis film outside of the thesis screening block, let us know by emailing bijoufestival@calarts.edu. An in person lottery will decide the screening order for each screening. Look out for more information in the Spring.
Graduating Character Animation students are offered a screening opportunity during the Character Animation Open Show instead of a block during Bijou Festival, but may still enter their film(s) in a Bijou Festival Open Screening.
Questions and Answers
Q: Do I have to sign up?
A: You are not required to screen your film at Bijou Festival, but if you would like to screen your film, you do have to sign up for a screening block.
Q: I don’t know if I’ll be done making my film by the deadline. Should I still sign up?
A: Yes! In fact, we still encourage you to screen your film even if it’s unfinished (possibly with a disclosure that it is a work in progress)! But, if you find you’ve signed up to screen a film and end up not wanting to show it, please let us know by emailing bijoufestival@calarts.edu as soon as possible.
Q: What if I can’t be at the sign-up?
A: If you can’t be at this sign-up event, you can have another student sign up for you, and they may handle your ticket/sign-up.
Q: A film of mine is showing in a Class screening/Curated screening, can I also submit it to an Open Screening?
A: No, Please make sure you do NOT submit work to an Open Screening that will also be shown in a Class Screening. Audiences have requested that work be shown only once during the Bijou Festival.
Q: My film is screening in Showcase/Open Show/Producers’ Show. Can I still submit it to an Open Screening?
A: As long as your film isn’t programmed in a Bijou Festival class screening or curated block, you may sign it up to show in an Open Block.
Q: Can I go first in my Open Screening?
A: There are just too many films to allow everyone to select exactly what time their film screens. Please select an open block you can attend the entirety of, as you will not be able to choose the exact time your film is screened.
Q: Can I screen more than one film in an Open Screening?
A: Assuming there is time during the festival, you may screen as many films as you made this year. However, time will be limited depending on how many films are submitted. Priority will be given to a student’s first submission over another student’s second/third/etc.If you have any other questions, feel free to ask in person at the sign-up, or contact us at bijoufestival@calarts.edu, or by submitting a 2 Pop Ticket.
