Auto Syncing Audio and Picture in DaVinci Resolve
Ok, you’ve imported your audio files (from a sound recorder like the MixPre) and your camera files into your DaVinci Resolve project. Now, it’s time to sync your audio files and camera files so that you can edit using the mic(s) of your choice.
- Working within either the Media tab or the Edit tab, select all of the audio clips and camera clips that you would like to sync.
- One way to do this is to select the first file in your clip list, hold down the SHIFT key, and then select the last file in the clip list.
- Then, RIGHT-CLICK (or hold down the CONTROL key and CLICK) and select “Auto Sync Audio” from the menu that pops up.
- In the “Automatically Sync Audio” window that pops up, you’ll need to change a few settings:
- Select Waveform.
- Use channel number 1 for synchronization (this means you’ll use your camera audio as a reference point for the sync).
- Check the box next to “Retain embedded audio (camera audio)” so that you can keep your camera audio as a reference.
- When the auto sync process is complete, you can check that a clip has been synced by right clicking on it and selecting “Clip Attributes” from the menu.
- In the “Clip Attributes” window, click on the Audio tab. You should see the channels from your audio recorder listed. In the example below, 4 MixPre channels (4 mics) were recorded.
- Now you can begin editing with your synced clips. When you drop a synced clip onto a timeline, you’ll see each audio channel linked to the video clip. Feel free to mute and/or solo channels so that you’re not listening to all mics at once. It’s a good idea to name your audio tracks so that you know which mic is on which track.
