Technical Requirements for Films

You are here:

After submitting your online Film Submission Form, we will create a dedicated submission folder for your film on FVCentral, and will email you when it is ready. Your film and a still image from it must be submitted to the folder that we specify in the email.

Your film must be a QuickTime movie in the correct format, listed below. You must also include a 1920 x 1080 still image from your film (PNG, TIFF, PSD or JPEG). We strongly recommend using Premiere Pro to export your final QuickTime movie, since it supports the required settings.

Please see this Technical Guide for details on exporting a ProRes QuickTime movie from Premiere Pro.

Preferred settings – Apple ProRes 422 HQ:

  • File Format: QuickTime (.mov)
  • Codec/Compressor: Apple ProRes 422 HQ
  • Size: 1920 x 1080
  • Frame Rate: 24
  • Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
  • Field Order: Progressive
  • Audio: 48 kHz, 24 bit, Uncompressed
(32 bit is acceptable, if 24 bit is not an option)

If you are unable to export Apple ProRes 422 HQ, or your current internet connectivity prohibits you from uploading a file that large, you can export an H.264 version for your initial submission. Please see this Technical Guide for details. However, we will need a ProRes version if your film is accepted into the Producers’ Show.

Alternative settings – H.264:

  • File Format: H.264
  • Preset: Match Source – High bitrate
  • Size: 1920 x 1080
  • Frame Rate: 24
  • Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
  • Field Order: Progressive
