Technical Requirements for Films

You are here:

After submitting your online Film Submission Form (link TBA), you will be emailed a link to Google Drive where you will upload your film and a still image from it.

Your film must be a QuickTime movie in the correct format, listed below. You must also include a 1920 x 1080 still image from your film (PNG, TIFF, PSD or JPEG). We strongly recommend using Premiere Pro to export your final QuickTime movie, since it supports the required settings.

Please see this Technical Guide for details on exporting a ProRes QuickTime movie from Premiere Pro.

Preferred settings – Apple ProRes 422 HQ:

  • File Format: QuickTime (.mov)
  • Codec/Compressor: Apple ProRes 422 HQ
  • Size: 1920 x 1080
  • Frame Rate: 24
  • Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
  • Field Order: Progressive
  • Audio: 48 kHz, 24 bit, Uncompressed
(32 bit is acceptable, if 24 bit is not an option)

If you are unable to export Apple ProRes 422 HQ, or your current internet connectivity prohibits you from uploading a file that large, you can export an H.264 version for your initial submission. Please see this Technical Guide for details. However, we will still need a ProRes version when you’re able to submit one for archiving.

Alternative settings – H.264:

  • File Format: H.264
  • Preset: Match Source – High bitrate
  • Size: 1920 x 1080
  • Frame Rate: 24
  • Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
  • Field Order: Progressive
  • Audio: AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo, 320 kbps
