Open Show Deadlines, Time Limits and Eligibility

There are no extensions to the film deadline.

Time Limits

  • BFA1: 1 minute, 30 seconds maximum
    • Black and white (or monochrome)
    • No sync sound (adding sound effects and music in post-production is fine)
  • BFA2: 2 minutes, 30 seconds maximum
  • BFA3: 4 minutes maximum
  • BFA4/MFA: 7 minutes maximum

Films not adhering to these requirements will be included in the Open Show, but will not be eligible for judging for the Producers’ Show. Time limits include all titles and credits.


To submit films to the Open Show, you must be enrolled in the Character Animation Program; or you must be carrying 4 units of Character Animation foundation classes per semester (for both semesters of the current academic year), have a primarily story-driven film, and adhere to the time limits for your year level.

Examples of Character Animation foundation classes include: 2D Character Animation, Story, Life Drawing (including classes in the Advanced Life Drawing series).

Students whose films are selected for another program’s Showcase will not be eligible for the Producers’ Show.
